Hanging Towel and Matching Dishcloth

Materials:

I Hook

½” Button

4 oz. ww cotton yarn (MC)

1 oz ww cotton yarn (CC)

Hanging Towel:

Foundation: Using MC, ch 38. sc in second chain from hook. (ch 1, skip 1 chain, sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [18 ch 1 spaces, 19 sc]

Row 1: sc in first sc. (dc in empty chain of foundation row, sc in next sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [19 sc, 18 dc]

Row 2: sc in first sc. (ch 1, skip dc, sc in sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [18 ch 1 spaces, 19 sc]

Row 3: sc in first sc. (dc in empty dc of row 2, sc in next sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [19 sc, 18 dc]

Repeat rows 2 & 3 for 44 rows. Switch to CC.

Row 45: sc across. ch 1, turn.

Row 46: sc in first sc. Sc 2 tog. Sc in each sc across up to the last three sc. Sc 2 tog. Sc in last sc. ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 46 until 7 stitches remain.

Next row: sc across. ch 1, turn. [7 sc]

Repeat for 23 rows.

Next Row: sc in first 3 sc. ch 2, skip 1 sc. sc in last 3 sc. (buttonhole made)

Next Row: sc in first 3 sc. sc in ch 2 space. sc in last 3 sc. [7 sc] Finish off.

Fold skinny part over (this is the hanger) and mark where you want the button to go. Sew on button.


Dishhcloth:

Foundation: Using MC, ch 26. sc in second chain from hook. (ch 1, skip 1 chain, sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [12 ch 1 spaces, 13 sc]

Row 1: sc in first sc. (dc in empty chain of foundation row, sc in next sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [13 sc, 12 dc]

Row 2: sc in first sc. (ch 1, skip dc, sc in sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [12 ch 1 spaces, 13 sc]

Row 3: sc in first sc. (dc in empty dc of row 2, sc in next sc) to the end. ch1, turn. [13 sc, 12 dc]

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until your dishcloth is square.

Edging: Join CC in any corner. (ch 2, slip stitch) around. ch 4 instead of ch 2 at each corner. Finish off.

These are medium-size bibs (about 7” across at its widest point), good for small infants or as spit-up bibs.

Materials:

I hook

2 oz worsted weight cotton yarn (MC)

small amount of worsted weight cotton yarn for edging and ties (CC)

Foundation: Using MC, ch 14. sc in second chain from hook. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [13 sc]

Row 1: 2 sc in first sc. sc across up to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. ch 1, turn. [15 sc]

Row 2: Repeat Row 1 [17 sc]

Row 3: Repeat Row 1 [19 sc]

Row 4: Repeat Row 1 [21 sc]

Rows 5 – 23: sc across. ch 1, turn. [21 sc]

Now we are making the sides of the bib. We will make each side individually.

Side #1 (left side)

Row 24: sc across the FIRST 7 SC ONLY. Do not sc in the remaining 14 sc. ch 1, turn [7 sc]

Row 25: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [6 sc]

Row 26: sc across. ch 1, turn. [6 sc]

Row 27: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [5 sc]

Row 28: sc across. ch 1, turn. [5 sc]

Row 29: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [4 sc]

Row 30: sc across. ch 1, turn. [4 sc]

Row 31: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [3 sc]

Row 32: sc across. ch 1, turn. [3 sc]

Row 33: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [2 sc]

Row 34: sc across. ch 1, turn. [2 sc]

Row 35: sc 2 tog. ch 1, turn. [1 sc]

Row 36: sc. fasten off. [1 sc]

Side #2 (right side)

Flip bib over. Reattach MC yarn to the other end of Row 23. Repeat Rows 24-36 on this side.


Edging and ties: Attach contrasting color in Row 36 of Side #2.

Chain 35. Slip stitch in each chain (making tie #1). Slip stitch back into Row 36. ch 1. sc evenly down inside of Side #2, across front of bib, and up the inside of Side #1.

When you reach Row 36 of side #1 (the top), Chain 35. Slip stitch in each chain (making tie #2). Slip stitch back into Row 36. ch 1. sc evenly around the outer edge of the bib. When you get back to Row 36 of Side #2 (where you joined the CC), join to first sc. Fasten off.
